Photography - Finding Focus

Life wins!

In phography, finding focus is the most critical factor in producing a great shot. I am not talking about focusing the camera but deciding what the image is about. This determines the composition and actual focal point of the shot.

In Montana, our cabin was in the middle of a valley that had a major fire in March. It killed acres of trees, but life was already in full bloom! Mike Palmeri, Pete Elston and I spent a couple of hours shooting the scene. Some shots tell the story better than others. The picture below was not nearly as successful as the one above, primarily because it was a more diluted story, trees and flowers. Above, the photo was about one flower in front of one tree! Tight focus made all the difference.
